Exchange rates change daily, check with a bank or your
hotel for current rates of exchange. Hotels and some
department stores will exchange money but the handling
fee is usually higher than that of the bank |

Post offices (yubinkyoku) are open 9am
to 5pm, the main office are also open saturdays 9am
to 5pm for postal services but closed for financial
transactions. |

Bank in japan are open 9am to 3pm,Monday to Friday.
Banks that exchange foreign currency and travelers checks
will usually display a sign saying "Foreign Exchange
Authorized Bank."
When cashing travelers checks or exchanging money be
sure to bring along your passport as you must present
it for identification.
Bank machines are open 8am to 6pm unless otherwise noted.
Some bank machines,but not all, are open 24 hours and
some bank machines have extended weekend hours. When
traveling to more remote parts of the country be sure
to confirm bank locations and hours. |

International calls can be made from
hotel and other private telephones as well as from the
green and gray public telephones with gold panels.
Telephone cards are necessary when making internationl
cards and can be office or vending machines near the
communications companies to choose from when making
overseas telephone calls from Japan. |
To make a call dial the access
code, the country code, the city code and the local
phone number yo are calling.
To use the pablic phones, usually red, pink, green or
gray, for local calls, insert a¥\10 coin and dial
the number. To avoid the warning buzzer, which wil interrupt
your call after 90 seconds, it is advisable to insert
several¥10 coins at once. You may insert¥100
coins but phones will not return any unused portions.
Phone card are very convenient but some phones do not
ccept them so be sure to always carry a few¥10 coins
with you. |
